If you've ever had the privilege of watching a little one play with a castle playset and its associated castle toys you'll know what I mean when I say that they are enthralled with them. Little girls and particularly little boys eyes light up and a smile from ear to ear is not uncommon when they get a toy castle or a toy knight as a present.
You see they love playing with the little drawbridge, drawing it up and letting it down just in time to have one of the characters, maybe one of the toy knights, run through and leap the pretend moat. They love having the knights ride around on their valiant steed's chasing the small but ferocious dragon toys, vanquishing the evil monster. Watch as they make their little hero return to the castle to accept the rewards of the noble king and queen perched upon the battlements. And maybe if they are lucky the hero might even win the hand of the princess, who of course was being attacked by the nasty two-headed dragon when the help arrived.

They will literally play for hours doing this while you get to go and have a coffee, or tea, sit back relax and watch their enjoyment. It's all terrific, wholesome fun for them and for us of course! They seem to love it so much, it's a real fascination. I guess most children love castle toys that enable them to role-play and toys that help them to make up stories of them being the hero. But boys appear to have a deep down desire to rescue the beautiful princess, to courageously conquer the ogre or the dragon. I am not sure why, but it is there nonetheless. As a result they seem enthralled with castle toys, dragon toys and especially the little toy knights resplendent in their shining armour.
The girls also seem to love the notion of toy castles, you can get some exquisite pink toy castles that are just fabulous. The girls seem to lean more towards playing with the characters themselves rather than subduing dragons and ogres but that's okay, it's kind of like a really cool dolls house for them but a bit more romantic.
So if you ever get the chance to watch some little ones playing with a castle playset or some cool castle toys do take the opportunity. It's a joy to me and I'm sure it will be for you as well.
