There are plenty of lights and sounds as kids drive around. The set also features a built-in carry handle and storage, and a rampway with two Wheelies vehicles! At just about 40 dollars this is a spectacular gift and people are going gaga over it.

Melissa & Doug present Abby & Emma Deluxe Magnetic Dress-Up kits for girls. Obviously a haven for spending many happy hours, these adorable play sets feature magnetic dolls with doll stands and hundreds of dress-up options. Not only do these enrich a child's imagination, they are exceptional quality and value because of the stories little girls would create around their cherished possessions. At less than 20 dollars this is a no-brainer to buy.

- Make sure you buy toys that do not include small parts that may be swallowed by the child. Children below 3 like to put things in their mouths so you must always keep a close watch when they play.

- Make sure burst balloons are out of reach of children in this age group. They may swallow the broken balloon and choke.

- Balls, marbles and other round objects with a diameter of 1.75 inches should be avoided. They may easily be swallowed.

- Children below 3 usually twist, pull and prod their toys. Make sure the toys you buy are of high quality and have no parts that might be accidentally dismembered by the child.

3 - 5 Years Old

- Toys with sharp edges or points are highly discouraged.

- Check the toy before purchase. Make sure they are not made out of brittle plastic that may chip or break and create sharp edges.

- When looking for coloring materials, make sure the mark "ASTM D-4236" is present in the product. This basically means that the material has been thoroughly checked for poisons and has passed the safety measures.

6 - 12 Years Old

- Make sure you instruct the older kids to keep their own toys away from their little brothers and sisters at all times.

- Sometimes, children in this age group especially the boys tend to like toy guns. Make sure that the toy can easily be distinguished. Bright colorings on the toy guns are examples.

For all ages

- Personally check the toys for damages. After the kids play with the toys, do a quick check to see if some parts have not broken off creating sharp edges or the paint hasn't peeled off. Broken toys should be repaired or replaced right away to avoid accidents.

- Tell your kids never to put the toys inside their mouths. This is extremely hard for infants so you must keep a close watch to make sure.

- Keep yourself up-to-date with toy recalls.

- Teach your kids to arrange their toys after playtime. This is to prevent them or another member of the family from tripping on them.

- Be careful of toys that produce loud noises. This can result in hearing defects. If your kids already have toys that make sounds, make sure you instruct them not to put them near their ears at all times to prevent stress to the ears.

Traditionally speaking, playing with dolls has been considered a girl's pastime. From the 1940s to the 1960s, when dolls were quickly gaining popularity, it was the female children who could be found role-playing in the shoes of their mother or grandmother. Today, more and more people are starting to embrace the concept of boys playing with dolls.

The debate of boys and dolls is a long-standing, often relationship-dividing, argument. Parents of young boys often find themselves at arms with each other over a simple toy, and it doesn't take long for other family members, friends, and neighbors to get involved.

Much of the concern - from a male point of view - seems to stem from the fact that dolls are considered a feminine toy. Fathers and other men struggle with the mental image of watching their "tough" young son coddle a toy baby; in fact, many men worry that playing with a doll will cause negative consequences in their son's future. Acceptance begins with the adult male's outlook on life itself, including his ability to embrace other people's lifestyles, such as that of homosexuality.

Most experts agree: Playing with dolls cannot possibly cause a young boy to develop an overtly feminine side. What many parents fail to realize is that caring for a doll requires imagination, care, love, and concern on the child's part. There is something about watching a young boy care for a baby that is heartwarming and genuine, especially if that child is otherwise rough-and-tough.

From birth, most boys are taught to be resilient and to play with trucks and tractors. Although it is possible that boys instinctively gravitate towards "boy toys", they also mimic real life and other playmates. If a young boy sees a young girl having fun with a doll, he will also want to play a role. It's also common for boys who spend the majority of their time with their mother or female caregiver to be drawn to conventional girl toys. Adult females are often more accepting of the situation than male influences, supporting a young boy to follow wherever his imagination may take him.

Overall, most parents and educators agree that activities should not be split by gender. Boys should have as much of an opportunity as girls to play house, care for dolls, or use toy mops and brooms. As the years progress, less and less focus is being placed on traditional roles, making it increasingly important for young boys to realize the importance of gender equality.
